It’s that time of year when I am beside myself with excitement about the forthcoming motorcycle racing season and especially my favourite of the championships, World Superbikes (WSB).
This year however, I am more excited than an excited person that is very excitable LOL.
The reason?
There are seven, yes seven, magnificent British riders in the championship this year, c’mon!
Following on from the recent Portimao three day test, five out of the top six were Brits, with young guns Jonathan Rea and Leon Haslem leading the way.

The amount of Brits and how well they are doing has reportedly not gone unnoticed by the older hands on the grid and there’s no doubt that there will be some close riding this year as the new boys assert themselves and the older guard do likewise.
From a fans point of view this couldn’t be better news and with only four weeks to go I say bring it on!
Add to this Brit Eugene Laverty (runner up in the World Supersport championship in 2009) fastest in testing and Brit Chaz Davies part of a four rider Triumph team and the Brits are out in force this year in World Supersports as well.
I will be very surprised if there is not a British World Superbike champion this year and we may even do the double with World Supersport as well if Laverty has anything to do with it, so can we expect Sports Personality of the year to be a motorcycle racer? Probably not, but that will be one election we will be voting in.
At least one sport is putting the Great back into Great Britain.
There’s a little video of a photo shoot of the chaps at Portimao to whet your appetite for what’s to come.
