As we plough headlong into another dreary round of the World Cup – is it really four years since the last one? - epitomised by Terry Venables (who apparently has something to do with football) murdering a song on prime time TV, I ask have the team really got a better chance of bringing glory to this green and pleasant land than the Magnificent Seven currently battling for glory in the World Superbikes championship?
Quick answer: No chance!
Even Terry whatshisface wouldn’t be drawn on England’s chances instead preferring to discuss the merits of a couple of foreign teams, whilst we were still recovering from the fact that everyone thought his singing was good. Mind you they probably think England stands a chance the poor luvs.
Anyhow, back to the plot….
This weekend’s action from World Superbikes, from what is called the rider’s circuit at Assen in Holland, was some of the best I have seen for a good while. When you consider that most World Superbikes races provide plenty of action, you might consider getting a mate to lend you a recording, it was that good.
Race 2 particularly was unrivalled in recent times, with about ten (although it could have been more) riders battling for the lead. It was impossible to know who to watch as riders tried daring overtakes, ran wide, lost places, got them back again and so on and so forth, spectacular doesn’t start to describe it.
Plus, Britannia ruled the waves, well the race track anyway. Both World Superbikes races saw three Brits on the podium – how good is that? Plus a Brit won the World Supersport too. The only thing that could have made it better aside from Troy Bayliss coming out of retirement and joining in, would have been if the winning bike had been a Triumph!
So….
Forget the World Cup – you know it makes sense.
World Superbikes is where the spoils are, and oh yeah far more exciting than a load of blokes kicking a ball around – guaranteed!
Tell us who won both races. and where the winner lives, and try your best to spell his name right

Hi Gerry, thanks for commenting although I am not sure what your point is, care to clarify?
