Did you hear about the Wootton Bassett bikers run to raise money for our troops in Afghanistan?

I’m guessing you did.

Did you also hear about the newspaper columnist who has been slagging off bikers for the heinous crime of raising money by doing something we love! eh?

It seems that aside from his obvious hostility towards ‘hairy biker types‘ that fundraising is only legitimate and worthy if you are taking part in something you don’t like doing, something that takes a bit of effort or that stretches you mentally and/or physically.

Mmmm.

Maybe that’s where fundraising has been going wrong…..

…If we could get people to sponsor us to do something we actually LOVE doing…now there’s a thought.

Anyhow back to Wootton Bassett, a great success by all accounts with 15,000 motorcyclists riding through the streets and raising over £100,000 for the Afghan Heroes, doesn’t sound too shabby to me.

It seems that some sections of the media want to keep us in our boxes.

The boxes in their minds where we are dirty, drug taking, gun toting maniacs to be feared at all costs and not to be encouraged into the mainstream of society.

Rather than people who happen to love motorcycles and chose them as their mode of transport and even a lifetsyle choice and more….maybe that’s what he fears – a group of people who know their minds and follow their passion wholeheartedly.

Anyhow as a result of this backlash by a certain journalist against the run….I won’t name the paper or the journalist as my other half Pete thinks that this bloke is looking for some kind of celebrity status and this is what we are giving him over this furor – he could be right… but it may just (hopefully) come back to bite him on the bum.

Anyhow, a Facebook page has been started to protest against this newspaper and its journalist:
