Relentless Suzuki Rider Cameron Donald has experienced both the ups and downs of TT racing this week:
In Thursday night’s practice session he added his name to the Isle of Man TT history books, recording the first ever 131mph lap on his GSX-R1000 Superbike around the famous 37.73-mile circuit.
He said at the time: “I can’t believe the lap was so good as I was just cruising and I also got caught behind a couple of top riders who were hard to pass. The lap felt really comfortable on my GSX-R1000 and I didn’t even look at the clock when I crossed the line. I’m not counting my chickens just yet, but this sets us up well for Saturday’s race.”
Saturday’s Superbike race looked to be a cracker as Donald looked to threaten the crown of John McGuinness who was the previous ‘King of the Mountain’ after breaking the 130mph lap record.
However, a lot can change in 24 hours and indeed at the TT, as Donald found out to his cost in the Friday night final practice session.
Cameron Donald was approaching the Keppel Gate section of the course, he missed a gear which forced him to run wide onto the grass and crash. Although he wasn’t seriously hurt he did dislocate his left shoulder and suffering a minor back injury.
This unfortunately put Donald out of the Superbike race.
