In todays mutterings I want to praise a Triumph dealer extraordinaire. In my opinion there is nothing worse than going to a dealer, any dealer, and getting downright mediocre or terrible service.
However, several heads do stick above the parapet and one of these is Windy Corner at Barwell in Leicestershire.
This small, but beautifully formed operation, is run by Roger Winterburn and although there is no mistaking he is a businessman, he is a really nice bloke and when you buy a motorcycle from him he goes out of his way to make it a very pleasant experience.
Now, you may think that a strange thing to say, but if you’ve been around the motorcycle scene for a number of years I feel sure you will have visited your fair share of dealers and had the less than thrilling experiences I speak of above.
Roger is always welcoming whenever we visit, whether to browse or to buy we are always treated the same. I should also mention the parts department – again the warm glow extends to the folks that run that side of the operation – they are extremely knowledgable, as you might expect, friendly and efficient. Hang on, I almost forgot the mechanics, they are also willing to give of their expertise if you have a question regarding your Triumph motorcycle.
We had reason to visit last week as we needed a new air filter for the Trident, lets just say with more than 100k on the clock since it left Mr Bloor’s factory it was decidedly sad and in need of replacement, as usual a more than pleasant experience.
The other half always likes to have a good look around the showroom, which always makes me slightly nervous and makes me hold onto my wallet ever so much more tightly, well last week we were greeted with a lot more bright colours and bling than is normally associated with a Triumph motorcycle, Roger and Windy Corner are now dealers for Victory Motorcycles, wow!
Windy Corner are no strangers to the V-twin world, having once been successful Harley Davidson dealers, way back when, and although I never visited his premises in those days I suspect customers were treated far better than a few of the Harley Davidson dealerships I could mention that are around these days, he would have a job to be worse that’s for sure.
I digress, the future is bright, as they say, at Windy Corner, sunglasses bright in fact with lime green, bright blue and bright yellow machines along with the more sedate blacks and cherry red and of course lots of chrome. This is likely to be a smart move for Windy Corner and indeed Roger says he is making sales already, recession what recession?
Of course there is another good reason to visit your nearest Triumph showroom, of the wallet keeping hold of variety, and that is the new Triumph Sprint GT tourer which Triumph says will be available from UK dealers from the end of May and priced at £9,499 OTR. Of course the other half is excited, so a test ride might need to be booked and more holding on to the wallet tightly is predicted. Full details can be found at the Triumph Motorcycles website as well as a chance to win a Thunderbird for 12 months.
I am sure Triumph are going to be strengthening their grip on the world market with their new tourer and if you should live close to Windy Corner why not pay them a visit?
one of the best dealerships in the country (in my opinion) ive been into bikes for 30 odd years so have seen a lot of dealers come and go , bought a new KTM off Roger a few years ago service and support were (and still are ) v good. The fact hes always kept photos of new customers and there bikes on the wall all round the shop says it all really, wouldnt see that in a modern triumph dealership ! Thats a fact cos triumph told windy corner to take um down. Bike dealers are turning into car dealerships and the salsemen couldnt tell you which way to put a split link on a chain . Rant over Live to ride ride to work !
