A couple of weeks ago it was Ton Up Day at Jacks Hill Cafe on the A5 just outside Towcester. The event is always well attended and this year the sun shone too, which is always a bonus.
This do is a great opportunity to see lots of classic motorcycles as well as a smattering of rockers plus a rock and roll band in the shape of The Rapiers.
This year the place was absolutely heaving, but it is also extremely laid back affair and people were happy to just meander around looking at the motorcycles and the stalls, chatting, eating and drinking, all to the background vibe of rock and roll music and classic motorcycles coming and going.
When we arrived we had missed the drama of a motorcycle catching fire – a modern Triumph no less – turned into a real fireball as you can see from the photos below and the Fire Brigade had to be called. I hope he was insured.
We had a good wonder round looking at the bikes and chatting with folks. It was that hot that we found ourselves searching for the limited amount of shade available, but one doesn’t like to complain.
It did make me wonder why the musical entertainment was inside the cafe with folks looking in through the window, didn’t look in myself, so am assuming they were looking through the window as there was no room inside. My twopenneth, for what it’s worth, is that it’s easier to engage with a band when you can actually see them. I’m guessing there was a good reason for it.
All in all a great, chilled out event and if you haven’t made it along yet keep an eye out for next years event usually around the second weekend of July.
A final mention to Keith, fellow Ural owner and enthusiast, who kindly provided the photos below, cheers mate:
