You may have seen in the press the case of the motorcyclist caught speeding at 122mph with his son on the back being jailed for six months. Click Here to read story
It is just me that thinks this is OTT?
Once again the press have been having a field day because a motorcyclist goes over the speed limit.
In my opinion the sentence given once again highlights the injustices in the law in this country.
Yes he was breaking the law and yes he had his 14 year old son on the back not wearing protective clothing or gloves – that was extremely silly in my opinion – but nothing happened and, according to one caller on the BBC Jeremy Vine show where it was discussed at length this lunchtime, this was a dual carriageway with a clear view for miles of approaching traffic and possible hazards.
Don’t get me wrong that doesn’t make it right but I am just gobsmacked at the amount of interest these cases get and yet your local scrote regularly takes a car and speeds through the towns and cities and gets away with a token slap on the wrist or the case being dropped, it really makes my blood boil, can you tell?
On the BBC Jeremy Vine show they had Steve Berry (don’t get me started on that idiot!) representing motorcycling (we need help then!) and some woman saying things like ‘oh no it is totally irresponsible to put your child on the back of your motorbike blah! blah!’ representing the rest of the nation, who were no doubt tut tutting at their radio in between reading all the facts in their Sun Newspaper, so it must be right!
At one point Jeremy Vine even said to Steve Berry, after quoting the regularly trotted out statistics about how vulnerable motorcyclists are compared to other road users, “what are you going to do to protect your child on the back of your motorcycle if a car driver pulls out of a junction into your path?”.
Now that was an ideal (and rare) opportunity to put forward the point on national radio about how many motorcycle accidents are actually the fault of other road users and therefore better education is the key to reducing motorcycle accidents. But did Berry use the opportunity? What do you think dear reader?
Once again we see motorcyclists being represented as the bad guys (and gals) when there are so many more worse crimes going on in this country with the perpetrators running free to do it again, like the toe rags that nicked our sidecar outfit.
Do you agree? Let me have your comments below.
