On Any Sunday DVD Review

on_any_sunday_dvdIf you’ve been around motorcycling any length of time, especially in classic bike circles, then you’ve probably heard of On Any Sunday featuring Steve McQueen.

Recently this was on special offer so we decided to get a copy for review.

I have to say it was much better than I anticipated and I thoroughly enjoyed it and I am sure it will get watched many times in the future without us getting bored of it.

With the Steve McQueen connection I had expected it to be all about him and his motorbikes. Not that there’s anything wrong with that of course. However, although he was featured in the footage entering various competitions under different names to protect his identity this wasn’t the focus of the film.

Instead we were treated to footage of various off-road events held around America on Sundays, hence the title, and the coverage was excellent and the variety of events and daring-do enough to hold interest throughout the film.

The competitors, including McQueen, all want to win and this makes the footage extremely exciting with you willing them on from your armchair. Because it was made in the 1970s this was before we were nannied beyond belief by the Health and Safety Gestapo. When people were allowed to take responsibility for their own risk taking and accepted the consequences of their actions as a possible outcome of following their passions.

I certainly recommend it and is just the thing for a rainy Sunday with a few tinnies, or when the relatives are sleeping off their Christmas dinner and will make a change from The Great Escape!
