Heart of England Motorcycle Show

It took a lot of getting going to go to this show, not sure why, the sun was shining, of a sorts, and at least it was dry. I was just having a job getting enthusiastic about a show run by the County Council promoting motorcycling at the local motor museum.

Anyhow, we dragged ourselves out of our apathetic stupor and went anyway and I’m glad we did.

It wasn’t a big show, but the amount of motorcycles in the car park you would have been forgiven for thinking it was a massive event. We both noticed how many Triumphs (Hinckley) and Harleys there were in the car park, not sure what that means, but we noticed it.

The event itself had free entrance and also included free entrance to the motor museum, which we didn’t get when the autojumbles were being held here, but that in itself could have accounted for the large numbers, somewhere to stop off on a ride round with nothing lost in the financial department if it wasn’t that good.

One feature of this show is that the general public can have a ride on the latest models, motorcycle models that is, ….and I saw Triumph, Ducati, Honda and Royal Enfield models being taken out. It’s seems it is necessary to have a police escort if you try a motorbike out, but in my experience whilst this is not necessarily something I find comfortable, they are not there to hand out speeding tickets and the like and will only offer advice if you ask for it. These guys are motorcyclists themselves and it seems to be a welcome break from the normal sort of police work they have to deal with.

There were quite a few accessories stalls and yours truly was treated to a new helmet by him indoors. I have been after one of the Caberg Trip flip up helmets for a while and was able to get one at a slightly reduced price than I have seen elsewhere partly because it seems that model is being discountinued to be replaced by a similar design that is Bluetooth enabled, called, get this the Konda! (The next part to read in the voice of Cat from Red Dwarf for full effect) Say what? Who comes up with these names? …Anyhow I’m very pleased to have one at last as I have been nervous about a full face helmet since reading about how more motorcyclists choke to death in serious accidents due to the fact the paramedics can’t get access to their mouth because they are wearing a full face helmet – eek! So a flip helmet it is then, just call me paranoid, OK? Actually that article was written by a paramedic in fact.

I digress, but there were some bargains to be had in the clothing department and no doubt motorcycle accessories as well if you were in the market for them.

Him indoors was rather taken with a spraying service that was being offered and kept their business card for future reference.

In the roped off arena area there was an R1 stunt display. Blimey! That guy knows how to handle a bike and hopefully you can get an idea of it from the photos hereabouts. The crowd were suitably appreciative and it was indeed difficult to get a good vantage point to observe all of the proceedings.

R1 Stunt Show

All in all not a bad little show. Judging by the punters there it was preaching to the converted rather than encouraging new motorcyclists or the general public to come and see what riding a motorcycle is all about.
