You may remember, dear reader, me mentioning my disgust about the BBC cutting short the Moto GP coverage – Sepang Moto GP – a couple of weeks back. Click Here for the report.

I duly sent off the online complaint and I have eventually got a response:

“Thank you for your e-mail regarding ‘MotoGP Live’.

I understand that you’re unhappy with our coverage of the race being moved from BBC One to BBC Two.

As I’m sure you’re aware the start of the ‘MotoGP’ race from Sepang, Malaysia was delayed by 40 minutes due to torrential rain and therefore the programme ended up overrunning our scheduled slot on BBC One.

We were unable to overrun on BBC One because ‘Match of the Day’ was scheduled for that morning and due to contractual reasons we couldn’t move the programme. In addition, ‘The Andrew Marr Show’ was also scheduled and with the guests booked to attend meant that particular programme also couldn’t be moved.

However, we were offered 30 minutes on BBC Two to show the end of the race and having already dropped one children’s programme, we weren’t allowed any more time and had to end the programme before the podium and interviews.

That being said, we did bring, as promised, all coverage in the re-run at 12:45.

I hope this helps to clarify the situation however I appreciate that you may continue to hold a different view.”

This stinks of money talking to me. Presumably the BBC have had to pay for the rights to televise the Moto GP and surely they have an obligation to the fans to show it in it’s entirety?

The excuses are at best weak, the football was a repeat as was the children’s programme that took the place of the Moto GP podiums and awards ceremony.

As the clocks went back in the UK that morning we got up to watch it, but normally we would have recorded it and on that basis we would have missed half the race. I’m sure there must have been fans that did happen to.

Not good enough BBC! Whilst I am it please can we have some decent presenters too, I don’t mind Steve Parrish but Charlie Cox is awful.
