A new autojumble for the calendar

One thing I’ve noticed in the current economic landscape is that there still seems to be a sustained interest in classic motorbikes.

I witnessed first hand recently how busy Supreme Motorcycles in Leicestershire were, filling mail order requests, and Hitchcocks who supply Royal Enfield spares far and wide have a healthy mail order business too.

That could be for many reasons and some of my thoughts are:

Rather than buy a new motorcycle maybe folks have decided to save some pennies and restore the old clunker, I mean Classic Motorcycle, they’ve hand languishing in their garage.

Perhaps there are more folks of shall we say of advancing years who own and fettle classic bikes, I know of and hear of chaps who buy boxes of bits and restore them to their former glory, keeps their minds and bodies active now they are retired.

Folks who are retired may not be so affected by the current economic situation as they may get a regular pension amount, obviously those relying on their savings have taken a hit as interest rates have plummeted.

Many classic and vintage motorcycling fans like to have a bimble to an autojumble or two, throughout the year, where they can not only source that elusive part for the old Matchless in the shed, but also pass a very pleasant hour or three in the company of like minded people, discussing all things motorcycle and generally enjoying the ambience.

Many a tall tale and anecdote is shared over a flask of coffee and some butties before departing with their purchases and bimbling back from whence they came.

We have on occasion done some bimbling to autojumbles of our own, but aside from a couple of local autojumbles a year at Stanford Hall, which have of late tended to be on the soggy side, we don’t tend to travel much further afield.

However, delighted are we to see the emergence of another local autojumble, the first meeting of which is scheduled to take place on Sunday 29th November.

It is to be held at the Motor Heritage Centre at Gaydon – where the Bonneville celebrations and Banbury runs have been held this year. It is only one mile from J12 of the M40 between Banbury and Warwick.

The organiser is Alan Wright and he is offering free pitches to all jumblers, private and trade alike and reports a brisk take up of plots.

The autojumble is for everything Classic British or Japanese plus off road spares stalls too.

You can contact Alan for booking a plot on 01789 751422.

Admission is £5 and gates open at 10am.

A future date for your diary is the next jumble which is January 2nd 2010.

So, if you are a classic bike enthusiast and enjoy autojumbling why not bimble along?
